General There is an urgent and increasing need for sophisticated, high bandwidth, Remotely UPGRADEABLE Low Power DSP [1] Data Acquisition Cards, for applications in “High Tech” electronic professional products and systems. The iPDA project is about developing a Range of state of the art Data Acquisition Cards. The extensive technological qualities of these cards would enable the use of up to 10 million Gates at above 1GHz. This would make these cards the most advanced Data Acquisition Cards on the market. To date, no such performance card is available.
Market research conclusions, Data Acquisition Systems
We have carried out a search and analysis of the entire fields of measurement, inspection and test equipment, the results of which clearly indicate that: a. To date, no such (speed and features) card is available on the market. b. There is an urgent and increasing need for sophisticated, high bandwidth, Upgradeable DSP Data Acquisition Cards.
Our capabilities advantage
Based on our extensive experience in developing and designing Data Acquisition Systems and cards, we have the capability to design this range of Data Acquisition cards within a relatively short time (lab prototypes within half a year, full software + engineering prototype within a year). Our Data Acquisition Cards would have all the above-mentioned advantages, and would cover an extensive range of applications, including those listed in the appendices.

A window of opportunity, remote upgrading of hardware
The ability to upgrade software by remote control is common in the electronics industry today. Upgrading hardware by remote control is a new concept, which has been scarcely explored. There are clear economical advantages to both manufacturers and end-users in having the ability to upgrade hardware, and with constant changes in the cybernetic marketplace, the need for such upgrades is becoming more and more pressing.
Applications and benefits
Added benefit of the new concept of remote upgrading for hardware. Creating hardware that can be upgraded in the field can significantly decrease the "time to market", thus decreasing marketing costs and strengthening the edge over the competition. If hardware can be upgraded in the field, the life span of a system can be extended. The ability to add new hardware features and fix existing ones without sending a technician out to the field can add up to big savings in maintenance and support throughout the system's life-span. Upgradeable systems can also provide new revenue prospects: new hardware features can be developed, distributed and sold economically to existing customers, just as new versions of software are distributed today. What's more, we can develop a standard "off-the-shelf" application that enables features to be swapped in and out depending on what the end-user purchases or needs. Upgradeable systems offer the possibility of working with on-line encryption services requiring hardware adjustments according to the customer's needs. When the above considerations and features are combined with the ability to examine and display the operating status of circuits and systems as needed, the following conclusion cannot be avoided. Technology that enables remote upgrading of hardware is an incredibly powerful tool.
Method
At least three methods currently exist for carrying out such upgrades:
Connecting the system through any of these channels according to technical preference and customer requirements would enable the upgrading to be carried out. |
